If you drank water only and lost weight, would that surprise anyone? No! There are no calories in water - We could all go on a water diet and loose loads of weight. The reason this story made the news was because, everybody was shocked that somebody lost weight by eating sugary crap. Well, all the nutritionist did, was go on a partial fast.
Remember the old joke . . . "Want to lose 20 lbs of ugly fat? . . . Then cut off your head." That is what this diet could be compared to . . . Its just a stupid partial fast - publicity stunt.
It reminds me of the law of conservation of energy. We cannot create or destroy energy. If your body burns 2,200 calories a day, and you eat only 1,900 calories in a day, then the stored energy in your body (fat and muscle) will be consumed at the rate of 300 calories a day. The trick is to burn fat and not muscle. Here are 3 tips to help you accomplish this:
1.) Strength Training:
Strength Training or Weight Lifting will increase all of your other physical skills like endurance, speed, etc, because strength is the basis for these skills. You keep yourself healthy by keeping your muscle’s strong. You are telling your body to “hold on to that muscle mass, because we need it to lift heavy stuff! Burn the fat instead of muscle, because your body is not getting enough calories to maintain your current weight.
2. High Intensity Training:
Question: what do most people do for fat burning activities?
Answer: Run on the treadmill for hours every day.
Who still looks the same after a year of training? The treadmill runners, or the people who lift weights? I think you know it is the treadmill runners.
Long distance running is not the most effective way to lose weight. High intensity training is what you should do on the treadmill, or bike, or jump rope, or with body weight exercises. It’s more productive, more fun, and takes less of your time.
It’s a LOT easier to not eat 1,000 calories than it is to burn it off on the treadmill.
3. Restrict Calorie Intake:
Cut back on your calories, especially Starches and Sugars. Don't cut back on Proteins and Fats. Low carb diets have taken a lot of hits lately, but the fact is they work. It’s important for men to keep your fat intake up because it helps maintain testosterone levels, it’s good for your joints, brain function and energy levels.
It's important to remember, weight loss is not really important. You want to lose fat and keep the muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so weight loss is not the best motivation. Looking and feeling good should be the final result of any diet plan.
